Nick, welcome back to Houston! The Lone Star Bottleheads has gone into a state of suspended animation, and I'm not aware of any DIY oriented meetings in this part of Texas in the past year. I believe the best place to check for any interest would be on the AudioCircle North Texas Audio Jam forum.

I'll be there. I suggest you post the message at DIY Audio Projects too. Grin

The Lone Star Bottleheads is in a state of suspended animation due to lack of interest, but there's a new DIY group in the area who are active on the DIY Audio Projects forum. We met in Round Rock recently, and the next meeting is planned for March 6, 2010 at my house in Houston. If you're interested go to the link below. If you're not, just continue sleeping.

How about a pair of Odyssey's? John Prator has them in Austin. As far as I know they aren't for sale, but I suppose if he ever gets his LS-9 line arrays they might be.

Would you consider a pair of ReQuests? They're for sale in Houston by Neil Potter. Neil is the sales manager at West Side Lexus, and he'll thrown in a Lexus for a few dollars more.  Grin

It turns out the Houston Audio Society meeting date was changed to this Saturday, so we're going there instead. The topic is vinyl. But there is some renewed interest in DIY, just not with the same old crowd. I'm going to a diy meeting in Round Rock on Oct 3rd.

At least one other person will be here, so the meeting is on.

I'm posting this on several forums to see if there's any interest. If three other people are interested I'll host one. I was thinking Saturday, September 19th. Any interest?

There are a few good things on you tube if you can find them:

I agree with Lee - Sorry to hear it but understandable. This doesn't preclude anybody else from hosting a Bottlehead meeting.
11  Lone Star Bottleheads Forums / Audio Discussions / New Decware Kits on: November 17, 2008, 05:52:07 AM
At the last meeting we were discussing the fact that Bottlehead Corp has priced themselves into a completely different market from the one they originally targeted with the $99 Foreplay and $399 Paramours. Looks like Decware is targeting that market with their new kits - ultra simple circuits and low prices, targeted toward the first-time kit builder. This is the way many of us got into the hobby, and judging from the low attendance at the last meeting it would be a good thing if a new generation become interested.

Gotta get rid of some speakers. This is the prototype pair, using eight 5.25" Dayton Classic woofers and one Vifa XT25 Tweeter. The enclosures are baltic birch plywood. The drivers aren't recessed on this pair. The $275 price is the wholesale cost of the parts. These speakers are 95dB sensitivity, 16 ohm impedance, with a 2nd order woofer crossover and a first order tweeter crossover. They are easily driven by the Bottlehead SEX amp, Paramours, etc. They sound much better with a SE tube amp than solid state. See the link below for a picture. Local pickup in Houston only, or I can deliver to SA or Austin for free beer and a listening session.  Grin

The input impedance of its ICE power modules is 10K, so it prefers the higher output impedance of an active preamp. I have used a 10K Mod Squad Line Drive passive pre with it, but I prefer its sound with a tube preamp. This is a very inexpensive 525 w/ch amp (1kw into a Maggie's 4 ohms), and it sounds very good for the price. I prefer it to the lower priced class AB amps I've heard like Rotels, NAD's, etc, especially when used with a tube preamp. Let me know if you plan to be at the Nov 1 meeting and I'll bring it so you can hear for yourself.
